Folklore Pilipinas
Folklore Pilipinas is a collective of artists, cultural workers, musicians, and academics dedicated to preserving and reimagining the rich heritage of Filipino myths, traditions, and oral histories. Folklore Pilipinas bridges the past and present – reviving timeless stories while highlighting their relevance in contemporary cultural dialogues. Through projects like Alamat Magpakailanman, travelling exhibits in Luzon and Visayas (and soon in Mindanao), Folklore Pilipinas invites audiences to rediscover folklore as a living, evolving part of Filipino identity.
Founded in 2022, Folklore Pilipinas has grown to over 50 passionate individuals. This diverse group – spanning visual arts, film, writing, music, science, and heritage studies – unites under one vision: to breathe new life into our stories passed down through generations. Through exhibitions, animation projects, workshops and talks, the group revives and explores the depth of local myths, traditions, and oral histories while emphasizing the interplay between contemporary art and cultural preservation. Folklore Pilipinas creates a platform for rediscovery, inviting both artists and audiences to engage with the timeless narratives and symbols, rooting Filipino identity, and weaving together art and folklore to ensure these narratives endure for generations to come.

About the Logo
Our logo features a swimming buwaya, a symbol revered by ancient Filipinos as an ancestor or “ninuno.” We perceive the buwaya as a visiting ancestor, appearing to us through the stories shared by elders, in books, and even as a small toy crocodile keychain found by one of our members along a bike path on the way to the animation studio. This imagery serves as a reminder to continue our mission of passing down our inherited stories through art, ensuring that our soul’s precious tales are never forgotten.
